NWRA Releases Break Identification Standard Draft for Public Comment

The National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA) has released a draft of its Break Identification Standard (BIS) for public comment. The proposed standard, to be known as ANSI/NWRA/BIS 001-2016, creates a system for identifying where damage has been repaired on vehicles and covers all types of glass in the car, exclusive of sunroofs.

A committee formed to create the Standard first met in early 2015.

Those who wish to review the latest draft of the BIS may do so here. Comments on the Standard are due by October 2 and should be sent to Janeen Mulligan at jmulligan@glass.com with a copy to the committee’s chair, Keith Beveridge at Keith.Beveridge@novusglass.com.

The committee hopes to submit the BIS Standard to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) by the end of the year.

“It is going to get easier to document where a break that was repaired was located,” says NWRA president Jeff Reddell. “We are pleased that this standard is just about completed.”
