NWRA Releases Revised Break Identification Standard Draft for Public Comment
The National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA) has released a revised draft of its Break Identification Standard (BIS) for public comment. The proposed standard, to be known as ANSI/NWRA/BIS 001-2016, creates a system for identifying where glass damage has been repaired and covers all types of glass in the car, exclusive of sunroofs.

Rhode Island Updates State Auto Glass Business Regulations; References ROLAGS
The state of Rhode Island recently revised the portion of its business regulations for those engaged in motor vehicle glass repair (section 161-RICR-300-5-3). The Rhode Island regulation references the Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard (ROLAGS™) in numerous points.

Eric Bray of Houston Windshield Repair in Houston, Miss., won the National Windshield Repair Association’s (NWRA) first photo contest, held late last year. Contestants submitted photos of the worst windshield repairs they’d ever seen.

Geico Reaches Settlement in Lawsuit; Motions for Default Judgment on Remaining Defendants
Geico has agreed to a settlement with several of the defendants in its lawsuit filed in June 2016 against defendants Jason Fry, Cornerstone Network Inc., Fry Enterprises Inc. doing business as Cornerstone Mobile Glass, James Hamilton, Suphattra Praphatsarang, Dwayne Johnson (aka DJ Johnson), Matthew Mika, M&J Glass Company LLC, Alphonso Garcia, ABS Enterprise Inc. and John Doe.

Glass Shops Rally Against New York Anti-Steering Legislation
The Assembly Insurance Committee in New York State passed a bill in January 2017 that set to amend the state’s insurance law. The law requires insurance companies to disclose to consumers that they have the right to choose which shop conducts repairs on their vehicle unless repairs solely involve auto glass.

Florida Legislation Set to Put Restrictions on Glass Shops
Auto glass shops working under an “assignment of benefits” from their customers would be barred from collecting attorneys’ fees if the Florida State Legislature approves a bill that was filed late last month.
