Windshield Quality, Other ANSI Committees, Slated to Meet at Auto Glass Week™

A number of ANSI committee meetings will be held just prior to Auto Glass Week™ 2015 on September 28 to 29, 2015. One of these meetings will address the National Windshield Repair Association’s (NWRA) development of a new American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard that relates to the identification in quality differences of windshields.

The NWRA is inviting new committee members to join the discussion for the initial meeting of ANSI NWRA QIS Standard for Identification of Quality Levels in Windshields.

“There is currently no way to even evaluate the quality levels of windshields—that’s what we aim to do—create a protocol for measuring quality for all windshields, OE and otherwise, that are used in aftermarket applications,” explains Jeff Reddell, NWRA president.  “We are looking at this from a repair perspective, but this also crosses over into replacement so it will be of interest to people outside of windshield repair,” he says.

The NWRA is inviting persons who have an interest in helping to aggregate a system that identifies the quality of windshield to join the committee, says Reddell.

This meeting will be held September 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Atlantis Hotel Resort Spa in Reno, Nev.

Please email jmulligan@glass.com prior to the meeting if you are interested in attending.

The NWRA will also hold an ANSI NWRA BIS Break Identification Standard Meeting on September 28 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Atlantis Hotel Resort Spa. The committee is working to create a new Windshield Repair Break Identification Standard. That standard will also be known as ANSI BSR/NWRA BIS 001-2015. The goal of the new standard will be to classify breakage in windshields and automotive glass.

Also on September 28, the NWRA will hold its ANSI ROLAGS Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard committee meeting from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The standard, known as ANSI/NWRA/ROLAGS 001-2014, contains an industry consensus of recommended terminology, definitions, process and procedures.

The Auto Glass Safety Council™ will hold its AGRSS Standards Committee on September 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Atlantis Hotel Resort Spa. The committee will address the impact Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have on the replacement of windshields and its current standard, ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard 003-2015. New committee members are welcome as well. Please email kbimber@agsc.org.

Auto Glass Week will be held September 30-October 2 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
